A Ceremony to Honor WWII Veteran

A Ceremony to Honor WWII Veteran Abode Hospice and Home Health of Pueblo had the great privilege of partnering with the Château at Sharmar and the Non-Commissioned Officers Association to honor our patient and World War II Veteran, Ernest Romero, with an honor and remembrance medallion called “The Legacy.”   WWII Veteran Mr. Romero was one of nine seniors at Central High School who enlisted in the United States Navy in January of 1944. Hundreds Show Up Despite Snowstorm to Honor Unattended Veteran

  The mission of Abode’s Bereavement program is to provide the best bereavement program for our clients, their communities, and our staff. When Mark S., Abode Hospice Bereavement Coordinator and Chaplain, discovered that a recently deceased patient, Clyde, was an unattended veteran, he set into action. As a first step, Mark reached out to the community Clyde resided in. When Clyde passed, the community he lived in was grieving. Volunteers are an essential part of a hospice team, participating in roles from directly interacting with patients to helping with fundraising efforts. Hospice volunteers often describe their work as purposeful, validating, and meaningful. Hospice volunteers are at the heart of every hospice operation and are valued greatly. How Hospice Volunteers Serve Supporting Patients This is a huge part of what hospice volunteers do. These tasks can include: visiting with patients, reading, taking walks, helping communicate for patients, bringing in therapeutic items, or supervising therapeutic visits.
